I cancelled my netflix account this morning. it felt good. i think that it just became a crutch for me. i've always felt sick about the idea of becoming one of those people that comes home after work and just plumps down on the couch for the rest of the night vegging out in front of the tv. that is what netflix was doing to me though! it was so easy with that damn watch it now!
I've been trying to read through east of eden. an incredible book. the only reason i don't pick it up is becaue i think it'll be easier just to sit and watch a quick episode of mythbusters or something. i need to get back to the roots man. i don't have a problem with technology, i think its the way that it makes everything easier in all the wrong ways that scares me. facebook makes it a lot easier to keep in the know with all your friends but it can also take away from certain social aspects that are vital to having friendships. i sometimes feel like i don't need get together to catch up with someone because i already know what they've been up to. from behind the deli counter at work i constantly see people walking by on the street with their heads down, ipod or phone in hand and headphones in their ears. i'm guilty of it too. i even do it in my car with the gps on my phone! instead of actually looking around and learning about where i physically am to memorize directions, i just follow a little pulsing blue dot on my phone that knows how to get anywhere 100 times better than i ever could. now i could start to get all crazy and start going off (more than i just did right now) but that would be another way i am using technology as a shoulder to cry on. so lets do this, and see if it really works, next time you see me, ask me about this and we'll talk more about it in person! how bout that!? now i'm off to go do some reading in the sun. hi ho
