so we barbs has a tour coming up and i think i want to try something out. tell me what you think friends. i was thinking that it would be cool to try and do this trip as healthy and cheaply as possible all while still having a great time and avoiding the usual bummer tour activities that so much time is wasted on such and sitting around on a computer and drinking and smoking.
i want to try and stay at a few camp sites, make as much of our own food or find great cheap eats, and experience as many off the grid experiences as possible. this is going to be hard and not as enjoyable without some networking and travel experience. i think a lot of this is grounded in me feeling super stuck and stagnant lately. so i thought i would reach out to this small group of friends and see if you guys have any ideas or input....

A lot of areas have maps of regional farm stands/pick-your-own-food farms that are cheap and delicious! I've been living off of farm stand produce for the past couple months, pretty much just going to the grocery store for grains and eggs. A lot of cities will have a map you can download online and print or will mail you a copy. Visitor centers would likely have them too if you wait till you're in town. Oh, also, check to see if they have maps of area hiking trails.
Also, if your tour route takes you through Western NC (although it seems like you're staying up north) you can crash at my place in the Smoky Mountains. Can't guarantee a bed for everyone, but definitely amazing nature and beautiful views.
Have you considered doing some CouchSurfing?
Okay, that's all. Good luck! Look forward to hearing where this idea takes you.
I think it's a fantastic idea. Of course more effort/intention. But to not have that "travel muck" feeling would be wonderful.
thanks ruth! i'll definitely check that out
