here is a quick thought for you all to ponder that i have been thinking a lot about myself...
whenever i am in a situation in life where things are not perfect (or not going well) i seem to produce better things of myself. when i say that things are not perfect i mean when i am not comfortable or settled either spiritually, artistically, mentally, emotionally, and even physically. i know this is an idea that we are all aware of but how far are we willing to take this. i know that, because i am not dating anyone right now (or even thinking of it for that matter), i can devote myself to my art, music, and spiritual life completely. is being single awsome? not really, especially when most of your friends are either married or dating someone they plan on marrying. ive always known that when i am depressed or struggling emotionally that i am almost forced to do something about it as in drawing closer to God, or writing music or painting. i think this is why the apostle paul says that (if you can stand it) not to get married so that you can devote your life to God. now when i think about being married i think about having kids, having a house, going on vacations, and all these other things that would be so amazing. it would be very comfortable though. when i think about devoting my life completely to God i think of lonliness, isolation and all these other hard things. this is definately not a comfortable life. now this is a very extreme situation and probably the hardest one for me to deal with (i am still not sure how i feel about it). but it is an idea that is so true in so many aspects of life. i could go on forever listing things that are good and comfortable but put you in a situation where your are just inable to do other things. as an aspiring artist and musician i have chosen to not do certain things as a sacrifice to allow me to persue the arts such as moving away from my family and friends, not getting a "real" 40hr/week job so that i have time to paint and write, not dating (this is a combination of choice and it's antithisis) and it would be nice to have those things.
every christian (if they are continually progressing in their relationship with christ) comes to a point where they have to decide to start sacrificing their comforts to continue to grow closer to Christ. if they don't choose this then they automatically choose a stillness or, i even dare to say stagnation. what do you think?
