sleeping in
listening to the new beirut album right now. pretty wonderful. i think about things. like the second you wake up you know? you hear car alarms, you smell your room, wonder at how odd it is that you have a room mate and how he creeps around in the morning in his underwear trying to act like he doesn't want to wake you up, (that is what is expected) you hear people lowly talking and laughing outside your door and wonder what you are missing out on, wonder why this is the situation you've chose for yourself, then you, (actually, i don't know if this is normal) but i sometimes get paralized in my bed for fear of walking out into the house among other people. i lay there and think of big bear and how the air probably smells and feels. how every single person wakes up in big bear to a perfectly warm and cozy/quiet house filled with the smell of autumn and maple syrup. how, if you live in big bear, you magically have enough money to not work and instead hang around all day reading coffee and surfing the web and writing cool little songs and going for walks in the crisp cold air with a dog and a beautiful girl. in the morning, in my bed, with the car alarms and the ceiling screaming at you with the voice of the speed freak couple up stairs and room mates who are too grumpy in the morning to talk to you or smile at you like sam owens did to me every morning when he stayed here but everyone was annoyed that he just showed up but i looked forward to walking out to him and his big smile and a hug.

i miss big bear too, especially the cold part and the quiet part. i'm glad we can always go home and don't take it for granted. if we lived there all of the things we love about it would drive us crazy; isn't that funny how that happens? anyway, when you miss it, give us a call. we'll come pick you up and you can hang out here. we'll turn on the fake fireplace, make a pot of coffee, and play some hell! i'm serious derek...anytime.
